(As featured on Paul Harvey's Afternoon Broadcast)
Through this program the Symphony Orchestra of Albuquerque has been able to inspire children from elementary schools across the state. On average these talented musicians have performed for approximately 20,000 students in recent years. The Symphony tours these schools and introduces these young students to each many different types of instruments, both in the classroom and in assembly format. We are attempting to expand our program via interactive Compact Discs and Videos (please see our line of Children’s Musical Products in our twin site, "Symphonic Endeavors") If a school, library, or home school teacher is interested in our program or our products, please contact us at msia@unm.edu or call at (505) 296-6009 (in Albuquerque, New Mexico) or toll free at 1-888-701-8600 nationwide. Through this program we hope to share the gift of music to demonstrate to children what they are capable of achieving, and to motivate and inspire others in the richness of the musical experience. Here are some of the comments by interested students and teachers:
"I think this is a neat program! Getting to hear all the instruments from the orchestra perform for my school has been great. As a pianist, I especially enjoy performing for children my own age." (Matthew Scarvie, age 10, Pianist)
"The Elementary Outreach program is a noble deed…bringing music to our schools is as important as providing music to our community. It is exciting to see the astonishing growth of the Elementary Music Program." (Ted Hobbs, State Representative, New Mexico Floor/House of Representatives)
"Last year, the Symphony Orchestra of Albuquerque took music to over 20,000 students. Where there is a will…in Albuquerque will’s name is Charles McDaniel (Producer SOA)." (Paul Harvey, "Paul Harvey News," August 29, 2000)
"Your program is magnificent; your musicians are always providing great music for our school." (Joyce Hime, Principal, Petroglyph Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM)
